If you have plenty of RAM on your PC, then this may be one of the best tweaks you ever try out for speeding up Windows XP.

If you have sufficient RAM, you can make XP run from RAM instead of from a page file on the hard drive. It will run considerably faster from RAM. By doing this, you are forcing XP to load the kernel and drivers into memory.

You will need to edit the registry for this tweak. Note: Be careful when editing the registry and all edits are done at your own risk.

OK, lets get started:

  • Open regedit: Click Start -> Run, then type in “regedit” and hit enter.
  • Browse to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
  • Double click on “DisablePagingExecutive”
  • Set the value of “DisablePagingExecutive” to 1
  • (optional) Set the value of “LargeSystemCache” to 1 (for improved performance)
  • All done!

Your Windows XP computer should now be running faster. If you want to undo this, just set the values of above back to 0.
