With speed increases in the Javascript interpreter in Chrome 2, Google is claiming that it is up to 30% faster than Chrome 1. However, the testing tool used for the benchmark was created by Google in order to perform the testing, so the real speed gains might not be so accurate. But it is most likely quite a bit faster.

In a separate test done by Betanews, they recorded a performance gain of approximately 20% in Chrome 2, over Chrome 1, this was all done relative to Internet Explorer 7 on the same system. Internet Explorer is used as an index for testing, because it is the slowest browser on the market.

They also tested the other major browsers on the market, the slowest browsers being IE7 and IE8. The fastest browser was the Safari 4 beta, followed by Chrome 2. Firefox sits somewhere in the middle. You can view the full graph of results at the Betanews browser test.
