One of our users has sent in this guide on how to remove the Windows validation for genuine software. So we have decided to post it for educational purposes.
- Open up Task Manager. Locate the process called “wgatray.exe”. If running, end this process.
- Reboot your computer into safe mode. You do this by pressing the F8 key when the computer is booting. You will then get a menu of startup options. Select “Safe Mode”.
- Delete “WgaTray.exe” from the c:\Windows\System32 and c:\Windows\System32\dllcache folders.
- The next step involves editing the registry, all edits are done at your own risk.
- Click Start->Run, then type in “regedit” to open the registry editor.
- Browse to the following location:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
- Delete the “WgaLogon” folder
- Reboot your computer
We haven’t tried this, but in theory you should no longer receive the prompts/popups telling you that your software is not genuine.
