Yahoo will finally be closing down the famous Geocities free hosting service. If you have been around as long as I have, then you will no doubt remember Geocities very well, and you probably even had your own Geocities page. So it is kind of sad to see the service go.

Yahoo hasn’t said too much about the closure and how it will affect users. All they have said is that it will close sometime later this year. Further information will be provided on how you can save your site data.

Geocities was first founded in 1994 and was bought out by Yahoo in 1999 for a cool 2.87 billion.  It will be a shame to see it go, so if you aren’t familiar with Geocities, check it out before it disappears forever.
