So there will essentially be three upgrade paths for Windows 7. Users can upgrade from XP to Windows 7, from Vista to Windows 7 and from Windows 7 to Windows 7.

Any users running Windows XP versions, or Vista will easily be able to upgrade to WIndows 7. There is particular benefit to XP users, as they can obtain upgrade licenses that supersede the XP licenses. Basically they will be able to upgrade to Windows 7 at a cheaper cost than performing a full new install. However, the upgrade from XP does require a clean install of Windows 7, rather than just an in place upgrade.

The upgrade from XP will require some extra time and effort in moving data and backing up data before the upgrade. However, going straight to Windows 7 does offer many benefits and cost savings.

Vista users will have a much easier process upgrading to Windows 7. They can simply perform the in place upgrade, and this will leave everything as-is, including: installed applications, data, etc. However, we would recommend that you back everything up before proceeding.

Users running Windows 7 will easily be able to upgrade to other versions of Windows 7.  So if you want to upgrade from Home Premium to Professional, or Professional to Enterprise, then this can easily be achieved. All the versions will be on the computer, upgrading will just be a matter of unlocking the desired version.
