Most users are not really familiar with the Windows registry (and for good reason). Microsoft does not really want you tinkering around there too much as it can cause bad things to happen very quickly. I remember the first time I played with the registry I was left with a PC unable to boot. I had to reinstall the OS and I did lose all of my data.

Anyway, by tweaking the registry you can unleash some really great features in XP and Vista, some features which can not be found any other way. So what you can do is really customize and tweak things to suit your exact needs, or you can just make things really cool.

Just be careful when editing the registry. Please backup the registry before doing anything, and don’t attempt to tweak the registry unless you know what you are doing.
